Parents’ Association

Beaumont Boys’ School Parents’ Association

Beaumont Boys School has an active Parents’ Association (PA) of which every parent/guardian is a member. The Parents’ Association Committee meets about once a month to plan events and discuss issues. If you are interested in joining the committee or if you are available to help at an event we would be delighted to hear from you. Just ask the school secretary for the PA committee contact details or respond to any of the flyers we distribute throughout the year.

Beaumont Boys School Parents’ Association is a member of the National Parents Council (NPC). For information on the services provided please check their website www.npc.ie

PA Reception for Parents of Junior Infants

As always, the school year kicks off with a busy first day back and parents/guardians of the Junior Infants are invited to the Halla for a tea/coffee reception and chat. For any new parents it’s a way of getting to know others and staying close to their little boy in case of emergency. The first day is often more traumatic for the adults than the new pupil!

Annual General Meeting ( AGM)

The Parents’ Association AGM takes place each October. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend the AGM and meet the members of the Parents’ Association Committee, ask questions, share any concerns/suggestions, volunteer to help at the various events throughout the year or become members of the committee.

Annual Bingo Event

Bingo

Bingo

Each November the PA organises an annual fund raising Bingo Night in the Rockies which has proved a huge success each year. This is mainly due to the fantastic donations we receive from all our sponsors, the Trojan work put in by all our volunteers and the great support from all those who attend.

Information Talks

Each year the PA organises a series of talks on topics of interest such as Internet Safety, Parenting Skills and Transition from Primary to Secondary School. These presentations are held either solely of jointly with the PA in Beaumont Girls School.

A recent talk was given by the co-ordinator of the SMILES Project and the benefits of exercise and healthy living. In the same month, the Girls School hosted a talk for parents of both schools on Preparation for Secondary School which was delivered by a representative of the NPC.

Christmas Fayre Café

The annual Christmas Fayre is one of the most popular events in the School calendar and is always hugely attended. Because it is an evening event it means the whole family can attend and the boys have a great time giving the guided tour! The PA Café and tuck shop proves to be an integral part of the evening. As well as serving refreshments, scrumptious cakes and mince pies, provided by the parents, the café has a cosy atmosphere where families can sit and chat.

Communion Reception

Both Boys and Girls Schools’ PA’s join forces each year to provide a reception for First Communicants and their families. It’s a community affair as parents of both schools make cakes and sandwiches, participate in the decoration of the church hall and serve tea/coffee and goodies to all.

The reception itself is a time for everyone who participated in the mass to relax over a cup of tea after a busy morning, to chat to other parents and for the girls to admire each other’s dresses. For the volunteers, it is their job to make sure that everyone is fed and watered and energised again for the rest of the day.

School Sports Day

Each year the PA operates a tuck shop under its trusty canopy. We’ve been lucky the past few years with sunny weather making all the athletes a thirsty crowd. Parents turn-up by the dozen to cheer on the boys and enjoy a tea or coffee from the tuck shop.

Graduation Mass

The PA presents a special memento to each 6th class pupil at the Graduation Mass in June. This is a particularly moving ceremony marking the end of the boys’ 8 happy years in Beaumont and the end of the cycle of the PA’s involvement with them. It seems like such a short while ago that we celebrated their first day at “Big School” with their parents in the Halla. As the boys prepare to discover new horizons, we remind ourselves that in little over two months time, our work starts all over again!

Laura’s

Laura’s of Douglas set-up shop in Boys School for a day and sold uniforms to Boys’ and Girls’ Parents at a special discount.

It was suggested at our PA AGM last year that we look at collecting used school uniforms from parents and selling them at a nominal cost. We tried this out for the first time this year by holding a Used Uniform Sale in the Halla in June. This worked well and we hope to repeat it next year.

High Street Books

This year saver stamps for both High Street Books and Laura’s have been for sale every Wednesday morning in the school Halla. Huge thanks to Ursula for all the work involved in this. Last June the High Street Books School Book Sale took place in Beaumont Girls School where books were sold to parents of both the boys and girls schools at a discount of 7.5%. This was in response to parents of boys and girls asking if both sets of books could be purchased at the book sale.

School BBQ

Look out for the usual PA tuck shop again at the School BBQ. And remember, as well as selling tasty treats, all proceeds from the tuck shop go towards school equipment for the benefit of the boys.
