Outdoor Classroom

Our new outdoor classroom was designed as a space that acts as a bridge between the indoor learning environment and the natural outdoor spaces around our school. It allows pupils and teachers to move between both worlds — learning outdoors while still staying connected to the field, the school grounds, and the curriculum.

The project began with the construction phase, where the foundations and structure were gradually put in place. This was an exciting stage for the school community, as pupils and staff could see the space taking shape and begin to imagine how it would be used for learning and exploration.

As the build progressed, the outdoor classroom evolved into a clear and purposeful learning space — one that sits “in between” the indoor classroom and the wider natural environment, giving pupils a sheltered but open space where they can work, think, collaborate, and connect with the outdoors.

The project was funded through a combination of school fundraising and community support. Much of the funding was raised through a school skydive fundraiser, along with generous sponsorship from our local Credit Union and financial support from a local trust fund, whose contribution helped bring the project to completion.

The completed outdoor classroom now provides a flexible teaching and learning space where lessons, nature, creativity, and digital learning come together. It acts as a physical and symbolic bridge between the indoors and outdoors, giving pupils opportunities to experience the curriculum in new ways while remaining connected to the world around them.
