Active School

Active Schools – School Overview

Beaumont Boys National School is an extraordinarily active school, with physical activity, sport, and movement embedded in daily school life. We are uniquely blessed by our location in the heart of Beaumont Park, which provides our pupils with outstanding opportunities for outdoor learning, exercise, games, and play in a safe, natural environment. Our school is deeply connected to the local sporting community and we are fortunate to have strong links with a wide range of local clubs, including Blackrock National Hurling Club, St Michael’s Gaelic Football Club, Avondale United Soccer Club, Ringmahon Rangers Soccer Club, Cork Constitution Rugby Club and St Michael’s Tennis Club. These partnerships help to nurture lifelong participation in sport, develop teamwork and resilience, and encourage our pupils to stay active both inside and outside of school.

Active Schools – Sports & Events Programme

As part of our Active Schools programme, Beaumont BNS offers a rich variety of sporting, movement, and physical activity opportunities throughout the year. Pupils take part in a wide range of school sports events including school soccer competitions, GAA blitzes, athletics activities, playground games initiatives, and inter-class challenges that promote fun, participation, and cooperation. We regularly engage with external programmes and visiting coaches, including the Skate in School initiative, which gives pupils the opportunity to develop balance, coordination, and confidence while trying new forms of movement. Alongside formal PE lessons, pupils benefit from movement breaks, outdoor activities in Beaumont Park, active classrooms, and themed Active Schools events that encourage every child — from junior infants to sixth class — to experience joyful, inclusive, and meaningful physical activity as part of everyday school life.
